Restorative Dental procedures
Wishing you’d never have a cavity, fractured or broken tooth is ideal, but usually, not practical. Dr. Shankland and his staff will work hard with you to avoid dental problems, but if a problem does occur, Dr. Shankland can provide:
Mercury-free fillings.
Dr. Shankland has been committed in 1979 not to place dental filling which contain mercury even though such restorations are still legal in the US. There are too many questions concerning how mercury from filling affects the human body that Dr. Shankland would rather not expose his patients or staff to this deadly metal. Besides, today, the composite (tooth-colored) restorative materials are excellent and last as long as mercury fillings and they don’t contain mercury.

Crowns
Crowns, or commonly called caps, come in all varieties. Crowns are used when a large section of a tooth fractures or if a tooth contains a very large filling. Crowns can also be used to improve the esthetics or look of a patient’s smile. Crowns are also used on implants to restore normal function and esthetics.
Bridges
Bridges are two or more crowns connected and are used to restore missing teeth so that you can chew effectively and comfortably. They are cemented in place and cared for just like natural teeth.
Partial dentures
Partial dentures are used to restore several missing teeth when a bridge or bridges are not used. These appliances are removable so that a patient can clean the remaining teeth effectively.

Complete dentures.
Believe it or not, many people today require complete dentures and Dr. Shankland is very well trained in providing this service. Voted the top student in his class of 215 as the outstanding student in prosthodontics (crowns, bridges, partial and complete dentures) by his professors, Dr. Shankland takes great pride in providing dentures for those who need this service.
