TMD or TMJ Treatment

TMD

TMD, commonly know as TMJ, are a group of musculoskeletal disorders that involve the temporomandibular joint. Dr. Wesley Shankland is highly trained to treat these disorders. Some of the more common symptoms are: clenching; pain in the face; headaches; clicking, popping, or grating sounds; or jaws that get stuck.

Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) is a term that encompasses a vast array of disorders of the temporomandibular joints (jaw joints) and associated anatomical structures. Everyone has two TMJs, one on each side of the face located just in front of the ears. These two little structures can be responsible for intense, severe pain and suffering if one or both have been injured.

TMJ clicking, popping, sticking or simply pain can result if one is struck in the jaw, hit in a rear end motor vehicle accident, have their mouth opened for a long time (for example, for a dental procedure or to be put to sleep for surgery), or if a person simply grinds and/or clenches his or her teeth.

Other symptoms include headache pain, ear pain, neck pain, difficulty swallowing or frankly, any type of undiagnosed head or facial pain.

Dr. Wesley Shankland and his staff have been treating patients with all types of TMD problems since the early 1980s. They see patients from all over the world. If you or a loved one is experiencing any of these symptoms, make an appointment to consult with Dr. Shankland.
