Sedation DentistryDental procedures do not have to be uncomfortable and stressful. We can provide you with safe and effective sedation so that your appointment will be pleasant and comfortable as possible. Why not use a form of conscious sedation if you're one of the many patients who fears the dentist?
Dr. Shankland has had extensive training in conscious sedation techniques and has provided sedation for his patients since his practice opened in 1978. Conscious sedation is both safe and effective. You are never totally asleep, but you will be relaxed and care very little concerning the procedure we will be performing.
We offer two types of sedation:
Conscious Oral Sedation
This type of sedation simply involves taking medication by mouth prior to arriving at the office for your procedure. Usually, we prescribe a medication the night before your appointment and then schedule your appointment first thing in the morning. You’ll also take medication about 90 prior to your appointment. You’ll arrive at our office very relaxed and non-stressed.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
This type of safe sedation has been used in dentistry and medicine since the 1850s. In fact, Dr. Horace Wells, a dentist from Baltimore, is credited with the discovery of inhalation anesthesia by first using nitrous oxide. With this type of sedation, you’d arrive at the office and Dr. Shankland would administer a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen through a mask in the treatment room. With this type of sedation, a patient can drive to and from the appointment without fear of leaving the office still sedated. Sometimes, nitrous oxide is used in conjunction with oral sedation.
Preventive dentistry is a practice of maintaining your oral hygiene by caring for your teeth to keep them healthy. It teach the patient how to prevent dental problems like cavities, gum disease, enamel wear etc.
Invisible orthodontic therapy is simple alternative to braces. Aligners are almost invisible and you can eat & clean your teeth normally.
Sedation dentistry means using the medication to help patient to get calm & relax during dental procedure. We can provide you with safe and effective sedation so that your appointment will be pleasant and comfortable as possible.
Restorative Dental Care
Restorative dentistry is the diagnosis and integrated management of diseases of oral health problems and restoring mouth to functional and aesthetic requirements of the individual.
Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth. When a fracture or decayed tooth is removed, a dental implant is placed in the jawbone to replace the missing tooth or teeth.
Obstructive sleep apnea is snoring with quiet pauses in breathing ending in gasping, snoring or choking sounds. Have you or your spouse awakened suddenly in a panic, not being able to breathe? If this continues, the diagnosis may very well be obstructive sleep apnea.
TMD, commonly known as TMJ, are a group of musculoskeletal disorders that involve the temporomandibular joint.
Facial pain is a pain disorder of the face. It is mostly experienced by patient to one side of the face and can be described as sharp, dull, crushing, aching or burning.
